From 1995 LTJ Bukem and the Logical movement have constantly pushed drum&bass into a new galaxy of sound, combining chilled atmospherics, sultry strings and crisp basslines. Logical Progression’s conception came from the passion and belief that a unique musical voice needed an uninhibited platform to express itself from.
On January 14th 2011, Melkweg Amsterdam is that platform, as LTJ Bukem returns for an installment of the infamous Logical Progression club night. During the mid nineties Melkweg was the first club in the Netherlands to host drum&bass nights, where young LTJ Bukem made his first appearance in 1996. Now almost 16 years later it is time to look back. The second overseas edition of Logical Progression offers a selection of celebrated DJs, all of whom have inspired or influenced LTJ Bukem himself, in a master class of drum&bass featuring the best music from 1994 till 1998.
LTJ Bukem needs little introduction: ground breaking DJ, inspirational musician, record label entrepreneur (‘Good Looking’), club visionary (‘Speed’)… This is the man who took the drum & bass concept from a small venue off London’s Charing Cross Road and catapulted it onto the international stage, introducing his advanced sound to the masses with ground breaking releases on his label Good Looking Records and the Logical Progression and Progression Sessions parties. Alongside Bukem will be the Godfathers of drum&bass: Fabio, Goldie and Doc Scott who will be serving up double portions of rolling basslines and melodic drum&bass beats.
Fabio was one of the early pioneers of in the late 80’s and early 90’s. He started clubnight Speed with Bukem and from thereon taking the music from the raves to the radio. First on Kiss FM, then onto BBC Radio 1 where he hosted legendary ‘One In The Jungle’ and now together with Grooverider the weekly ‘Drum & Bass Show’ where Fabio still continues to champion new talent and sounds.
Goldie is a multi talented graffiti artist, drum ‘n’ bass icon, DJ, actor and producer. A pioneer in all aspects. Goldie is a total original, a multi-talented complex shape shifter, who’s sold more than 2.5 million records worldwide. From the groundbreaking Timeless album to collaborations with pop starts such as David Bowie and Noel Gallagher on ‘Saturnz Return’. Through his own Metalheadz imprint Goldie showcased early releases by some of the most crucial jungle artists; from Doc Scott, Photek and Peshay to Dillinja, J Majik and Optical. A true icon of the scene will play his all time favourites. Also playing will be Doc Scott, a drum & bass institution. The man Goldie named "King of the Rollers" is one of the most respected DJs on the circuit, the owner of 31 Records and the producer of such classics as 'Here Come the Drumz', 'Shadow Boxing', 'Swarm' and 'Tokyo Dawn'. Still on top of his game after twenty years in the business. This is not all! No Logical Progression without vocal support! With the lyrical talents of MC’s Conrad, Moose and Warren G binding it all together, expect serious magic on this legendary edition of Logical Progression.
The milestone party will glance back and celebrate some of the standout cuts of the past decade and as Bukem himself states: “The music is still very much alive. Fifteen years ago a lot of doubters said the music, the people, the soul of what we were all trying to create wouldn’t last a year...it’s all a matter of opinion”.
